About us
We are Tami and Yaron Cohen from Mitzpe Hila. We love this part of the country and we love design, wine and people. We have three daughters, all born here in Mitzpe Hila and are the proud owners of three suites that we have created with joy among the oak and terebinth trees surrounding the house. We love our life in the Galilee. We love the quiet, the cool weather and the warmth of the people around us. We would like to give this Galilee experience to those who don’t live here, even if it's only for a few days of pleasure.
Tamar Va-Gefen's hospitality and boutique winery are for those who seek a different kind of experience. Tamar Va -Gefen, designed in Mediterranean style and overlooking a green oak forest, is a private boutique hotel which includes three beautiful suites. Our local wine is made in our own winery; and is a wonderful reminder of how to enjoy the simple things in life. The local stone, the arched ceilings and the light plastered walls will remind you of how simple it is to love what is natural. The wide doors opening into the private patio with a wooden deck and jacuzzi will invite you to stop running and simply chill out. The wonderful breakfast made with love and care will remind you how good attention and care can make you feel. The quiet, the uncompromising quality and the beautiful view will take you back to your innermost selves and to the days when everything was quiet, clear and connected.
Tami Cohen
A graphic designer who grew up in Nahariya in a family of wine and spirit makers from Europe. After coming to Israel, Tami’s grandparents were the first in the country to develop a vineyard using modern methods. Tami lives for color, design and textures. She loves natural materials and enjoys playing with their interconnections and contrasts. She loves cooking, baking and hosting guests.
Yaron Cohen
Comes from a farming family in Moshav Avdon in the Western Galilee. Yaron grew up among the orchards, chicken coops and tractors. As the years went by, he decided to follow his dream and plant a vineyard next to his house in Mitzpe Hila and to study wine making. Yaron, closely attached to the land, is also a master carpenter and builder, bursting with ideas and endless creativity.
The winery
Nestling among vines and oak trees, are our cellar and our winery. This is a Galilean winery that has been making wine for over 15 years. We create excellent wine in limited editions.
Just like people, the vines remember everything: winds and aromas, heat and cold, earth and water. These flavors are embedded in the fruit and are carried over to the wine.
Most of the grapes used for the Tamar Va -Gefen wines are local. They grow in a vineyard in Mitzpe Hila, overlooking the Montfort Crusader castle and reveling in the cool dry air of the Galilee hills. A small quantity of the grapes come from the Golan Heights and enrich the wine with the flavor of basalt stone and the mountain winds.
Most of the Tamar Va -Gefen wine is based on the Temperino grapes, which produce a full-bodied, fruity, dark red wine.
Our guests are welcome to visit and observe the process of the winemaking, to hear Yaron’s erudite explanations- as a man of the Western Galilee and graduate of winemaking studies at the Tel Hai College.
